What Are the Symptoms of Advanced Breast Cancer?

Q: I’m afraid of developing this disease. What are the symptoms of advanced breast cancer?

A: Once developing advanced breast cancer, different symptoms may occur according to the stage of the cancer.

  • Constant tiredness
  • Low energy levels
  • Feeling under the weather, including severe or ongoing headaches, constant nausea
  • Unexplained loss of weight and appetite
  • Pains in the bones of back, hips or ribs that doesn’t stop after pain relief or lasts longer than one to two weeks. The pain usually worsens at night. 
  • Discomfort or swelling in some parts of the body, such as ribs and the upper abdomen
  • Breathlessness or dry coughs
  • Changes of vision or speech

Please notice that these symptoms can also be caused by other conditions. Take pains in the bones for an example, it may occur because of ageing. Therefore, the symptoms are only for reference. If you have these symptoms, the best and first thing is to talk to a doctor or breast care nurse about your feelings and health conditions as soon as possible
