Can CDT Treat Lymphedema?

Q:
Can complete decongestive therapy treat lymphedema?

A:
Complete decongestive therapy (CDT) is a treatment that combines various treatment approaches, such as compression garments, bandaging, manual lymphatic drainage, exercise and self care.

In the first phase of the therapy, it aims at reducing swelling and other symptoms. This phase may last from 3 to 8 weeks.

In the second phase of the therapy, it aims at maintaining the results of the former phase by yourself.

However, if you have high blood pressure, heart failure, paralysis, blood clots, diabetes or acute infections, it is better for you to choose another treatment.
