Can you give a colorectal cancer screening guideline?

Several screening tests can be used to find a colorectal cancer. Talk to your doctor about which of the following tests are right for you:

  • Stool Tests – These tests include guaiac-based fecal occult blood test (gFOBT), fecal immunochemical test (FIT), FIT-DNA test.
  • Flexible Sigmoidoscopy – The doctor puts a short, thin and flexible tube into your rectum. The doctor checks for cancer inside the rectum and lower third of the colon.
  • Colonoscopy – This is similar to flexible sigmoidoscopy, except the doctor uses a longer tube to check for cancer inside the rectum and the entire colon. During the test, the doctor can find and remove most polyps and some cancers.
  • CT Colonography (Virtual Colonoscopy) – It uses X-rays and computers to produce images of the entire colon.
