Chronic Inflammation? Yogurt May Help You

Chronic inflammation is a factor in inflammatory bowel disease, arthritis and asthma. It is also associated with obesity, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease, and other chronic diseases. In chronic inflammation, the body attacks itself, wreaking biological havoc on our organs and systems.

Many people are suffering diseases associated with chronic inflammation. Recently, a study published in Journal of Nutrition claims yogurt may dampen chronic inflammation with new evidence. As the study paper says, yogurt may help reduce inflammation by improving the integrity of the intestinal lining, thus preventing endotoxins—pro-inflammatory molecules produced by gut microbes—from crossing into the blood stream.

The study was conducted in University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The regular drugs for chronic inflammation include aspirin, naproxen, hydrocortisone and prednisone, all of these drugs can mitigate the effects of chronic inflammation, but each comes with its own risks and side effects. People suffering chronic inflammation look for safe, gentle, long-term treatment options. The study will keep going.
