Barrett esophagus means that the lining of the esophagus is damaged by stomach acid. This occurs in the area where the esophagus and the stomach join. The exact cause of Barrett’s esophagus is unkown. However, most people with Barrett’s esophagus have a long-standing gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

Currently, there is no cure for Barrett’s esophagus. However, your doctor will recommend medications and treatments in preventing further damage from occuring.
