Fungal Molecular Tests

Fungal molecular test is used to detect a fungal infection and help to guide treatments. With the test doctor can determine which specific fungus or fungi are present.

Low levels of fungal molecular test may indicate

  • Athlete’s foot
  • Jock itch
  • Scalp or hair infection
  • Finger or toenail infection
  • Ringworm

High levels of fungal molecular test may indicate

  • Aspergillosis
  • Blastomycosis
  • Coccidioidomycosis
  • Cryptococcosis
  • Histoplasmosis

In general, a negative test result means that there is no fungal infection present and symptoms are likely due to another cause. A negative test after a person has been treated for a fungal infection means that the therapy has been successful.
