What does your GFR value mean?

eGFR – Estimated glomerular filtration rate is the best test to measure your level of kidney function and determine your stage of kidney disease.

If your GFR number is low, your kidneys are not working as well as they should. The earlier kidney disease is detected, the better the chance of slowing or stopping its progression.

In adults, the normal eGFR number is more than 90. eGFR declines with age, even in people without kidney disease. See chart below for average estimated GFR based on age.
