Diagnosis
To help your doctor diagnose bacterial vaginosis, you may:

  • Answer questions about your medical history
  • have a pelvic exam
  • take a sample of vaginal secretions
  • test your vaginal pH

Treatment
Medications may be used to treat bacterial vaginosis include:

  • Clindamycin (Cleocin, Clindesse, others)
  • Metronidazole (Flagyl, Metrogel-Vaginal, others)
  • Tinidazole (Tindamax)

To decrease the risk of recurrence, take medications as long as your doctor prescribes it.
