Q:
How to Diagnose Barrett Esophagus?

A:
Your doctor will use endoscopy to diagnose whether you have Barrett esophagus. An endoscope is a lighted tube with a camera at the end. So the doctor will pass the endoscope down your throat to check for signs of changing esophagus tissue.

Normal esophagus tissue appears pale and glossy, while in Barrett’s esophagus, the tissue appears red and velvety. Your doctor will remove tissue (biopsy) from your esophagus and examine it to determine the degree of change.
