How to Get Rid of Poison Ivy Rash Fast?

It is beneficial and healthy to spend some quality time outside. However, you are always at risk of getting poison ivy whether you are hiking or working in your garden. The posion ivy contains an oily resin which causes the rash. The symptoms of the rash may range from mildly unpleasant redness to a severe reaction of swelling, blistering, and oozing. It is annoying becasue even the moderate case of itching seem unbearable. So here are some tips that helps you to get rid of the rash fast.

Cool Compresses

Try using a towel or wash cloth soaked in plain tap water, Epson salt water, or astringent solution on the rash. This will relieve the intense itching and make you feel better. Do it a couple of times a day


After cooling your skin, coat the rash with a lotion such as Calamine. This helps to further relieve the itching and dry up the blisters.


Benadryl is available over-the-counter without prescription and can also help with the itching. Taking Benadryl at nighttime will make most people drowsy and help them sleep through the night without itching.


In moderate to severe cases of poison ivy rash, it is a good idea to see your doctor. Sometimes an oral corticosteroid such as prednisone may be useful.

Generally, the rash eventually goes away on its own in two to three weeks. And it is important to know scratching, though making you feel good, can damage your skin further and cause an infection, leading to a lasting severe rash. So try not to scratch the blisters as possible as you can. If the blisters break, cover loosely with a sterile bandage.
