How to Measure Blood Pressure By an Automatic Blood Monitor?

High blood pressure is one of the most important risk factors for stroke, heart attack, and kidney failure in people with diabetes. A frequent blood pressure measuring is vital for avoiding diabetes’ complication.

Here are some tips for using an automatic blood pressure monitor for self-management.

  1. Sit quietly for 3 to 5 minutes beforehand.
  2. Place your feet flat on the floor and rest your arm on a tabletop. Lean against the back of the chair. Stretch out your arm, palm upward.
  3. Place the cuff on your bare upper arm one inch above the bend of your elbow. Make sure the tubing falls over the front center of your arm so that the sensor is correctly placed. Pull the end of the cuff so that it’s evenly tight around your arm. Make sure your skin doesn’t pinch when the cuff inflates.
  4. Remain still and quiet as the machine begins measuring. When the reading is complete, record it and make your electronic personal health record.
