How to Prevent Heart Disease?

Heart disease is the leading cause of the death in the United States. There are many things in our daily life that may be conducive to your heart disease. Some of them are genetic and we cannot change it. But we can control most of them. Here are the heart disease risk factors and the related prevention.

Age. The risk increases as you get older, especially for men after 45 and women after 55.

Gender. Some risk factors may affect heart disease risk differently in women than in men.

Race. Compared with the whites, African Americans are more likely to have heart disease.

Family history.  Your close family member who had heart disease at an early age makes you greater risk.

Lifestyle changes

Manage your blood pressure.
Check your blood sugar regularly, at least once a year and get it in control.

Keep normal cholesterol and triglyceride levels .
High levels of cholesterol raise your risk of coronary artery disease and heart attack. Get your cholesterol and triglyceride levels back to normal with balance diet and exercise.

Avoid overweight.
Obesity may not only lead to heart disease, but also diabetes and hypertension. A standard weight really shields you from lots of chronic disease.

Eat a healthy diet.
Plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables, and whole grains are welcomed in any healthy diets. Be careful of the saturated fats, foods high in sodium, and added sugars. Regular exercise.

Sleep more.
