Hypothyroidism VS. Hyperthyroidism

Q:
Can you describe the similarities and differences between hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism?

A:
Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) is a condition in which your thyroid gland produces too much of the hormone thyroxine, while hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) is a condition in which your thyroid gland doesn’t produce enough of certain important hormones.

There are some similar symptoms:

  • Fatigue.
  • Muscle Weakness.
  • Changes in menstrual patterns.

But there are several opposite symptoms: Hyperthyroidism brings sudden weight loss and makes you more sensitive to heat, while hypothyroidism brings weight gain and makes you more sensitive to cold.
