Is Back Pain a Serious Symptom in Bladder Cancer?

Q: I was diagnosed with bladder cancer last month. The only two symptoms in my case was blood in urine and pain with urination. But I began to feel pain at back two or three days ago. Does back pain indicate that my bladder cancer has become more serious?

A: Common symptoms of bladder cancer include  

Blood or blood clots in the urine which is also known as hematuria.

Pain during urination

Frequent urination with small amount

Frequent urinary tract infections

When the disease becomes more severe, other symptoms will follow, such as

Lower back pain

Swelling in the lower legs

Pelvic mass

As the cancer spread, the following signs will appear.

Weight loss

Anemia

Bone pain or pain in the rectal, anal, or pelvic area
