Is Cervical Cancer Curable?

Q:

I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. But I haven’t got the result of my stage identification exam. Is cervical cancer curable?

A:

Cervical cancer is always treatable, but whether it’s curable depends on the stage and type. If it is caught early, the success rate of your treatment is high. Once you are diagnosed with cervical cancer, the best thing you can do is to have treatment. The earlier it is diagnosed and treated, the greater your chance of survival will be.

Most of the time, patients need surgery treatment only. It may be a hysterectomy, in which your womb will be removed, or a radical hysterectomy, in which surrounding tissues will be removed together with the womb. But if the cancer cells have spread, radiation therapy or chemotherapy will be called for.
