Is RHD Hereditary?

Q:

I have RHD, but I want my children to develop it one day. Is it hereditary?

A:

Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) is a chronic heart condition that is progressed from rheumatic fever. Rheumatic fever is a inflammatory disease that can cause damage to the heart valves. Some people can have rheumatic fever due to the genetic factors. However, the disease itself is not hereditary. RHD is not hereditary, either.
