It may also cause a fever, a cough, headache or a runny nose. Generally, strep throat is caused by bacteria, and the most common ones are streptococcus pyogenes and group A streptococcus.

Strep throat is a contagious disease, and it can be transmitted through nasal secretions, saliva or the breath of infected people. Besides, if you touch objects that contain saliva or nasal secretions of infected people, you may also get infected.
