Lymes disease is triggered by bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi that can be transmitted to humans through bites from infected black legged or deer tick. The followings are the symptoms and treatments for lymes disease to help you know more about it.

Symptoms:

In mild cases of lymes disease, or we say, in early stages, the signs and symptoms include headache, chills, fever, joint pain, fatigue, etc.

In severe cases of lymes disease, the symptoms are:

  • Heart palpitation
  • Brain inflammation or inflammation of the spinal cord
  • Shooting pains, numbness in the hands or feet
  • Rashes on other areas of the body
  • Arthritis with severe swelling and joint pain
  • Neck stiffness

Treatments:

For early stages of lymes disease, antibiotics such as doxycycline, amoxicillin, cefuroxime are recommended.

For late stages of lymes disease, patients can receive oral or intravenous antibiotics. But patients with symptoms of lingering arthritis should receive standard arthritis treatment.
