Most Common Brain Tumors

Generally speaking, brain tumors can be classified into primary brain tumors and secondary brain tumors.

Primary brain tumors are tumors that originate within brain tissues. The most common primary brain tumors are gliomas, including astrocytomas, oligodendrogliomas,and ependymomas. Other common types of primary brain tumors are meningiomas, schwannomas, craniopharyngiomas, germ cell tumors, and pineal region tumors.

Secondary brain tumors are tumors caused from cancer that originates in another part of the body. Treatment for secondary brain tumors depends on where the cancer started and the extent of the spread as well as other factors.
