Normetanephrine-Normal, High, Low

Normetanephrine is a metabolite of norepinephrine created by action of catechol-O-methyl transferase on norepinephrine.

The normal range of normetanephrine is 75 to 375 mcg/24 hours.

Elevated levels of normetanephrine in a person with signs and symptoms may indicate tumors including pheochromocytoma, neuroblastoma, ganglioneuroma and ganglioneuroblastoma.

It should be noticed that if the norepinephrine levels are elevated in patients who has been treated for a catecholamine-secreting tumor, it may indicate tumor recurrence.
