What is soft tissue sarcoma?

The soft tissue sarcoma is starts from the soft tissue, like: fat, muscle, tendon, lymph, and vessel etc. This kind of sarcoma is hard to deal with, since they are connected with the surrounding tissue closely and they can also transfer easily by the vessel. The metastatic cells would infiltrate other tissues and forms other lumps.

  • Biopsy: core needle biopsy; surgical biopsy.

What is the treatment of it?

The treatment options for soft tissue sarcoma will depend on the size, type and location of the tumor.

  • Surgery: when the lump is obvious and mature, the surgery would be the best choose. And the lymphatic dissection is needed when the abnormal cell invades the lymph.
  • Radiation therapy: the radiation with high energy would shrink or delete the lump or abnormal cells. And for the metastatic cells, the radiation therapy would be better.
  • Chemotherapy: take some specific drugs, and the abnormal cells would response positively to these drugs, and the tumor would be treated by these.

What about the prognosis?

The prognosis is related to many facts:

  • The diagnosis time: the early the better.
  • The location of the cancer: If the location near the trunk, then the prognosis would not good, vice versa.
  • The surgery and the assistant therapy would also affect the prognosis.
