Watchful! Singles May Develop in Your Eye!

Shingles is a disease characterized with a painful, blistering rash on the body and sometimes the face.

People with rash in or around the eye make up 10 to 20 percent of patients with shingles.

Symptoms of shingles in the eye

  • blistering rash on your eyelids, forehead, and possibly on the tip or side of your nose
  • burning or throbbing pain in your eye
  • redness around and in the eye
  • tearing or watery eyes
  • eye irritation
  • blurry vision
  • extreme sensitivity to light
  • swelling in parts of your eye, such as eyelid, retina (the light-sensitive layer in the back of your eye), cornea, which (the clear layer in the front of your eye)

If you have one or more of these symptoms above, call your doctor as soon as possible.
