There are three types of colon polyps:

  • Hyperplastic polyps – They are harmless and don’t develop into cancer.
  • Adenomatous polyps – Although most will never develop into cancer, they do have the potential to develop into colon cancer.
  • Malignant polyps – They are polyps that are noted under microscopic examination to have cancer cells in them.
