What are colorectal polyps?

Colorectal polyps refer to the small clumps that develop on the surface of the colon. Generally, most colorectal polyps are harmless, but some may lead to colorectal cancer over time .

There are three types of colorectal polyps, including:

  • Adenomatous polyps
    This is the most common type. Most of them are harmless, but some may develop into colorectal cancer.
  • Hyperplastic polyps
    Harmless and won’t develop into colorectal cancer.
  • Malignant polyps
    Have cancer cells in them and can develop into colorectal cancer.
