What are HIV and AIDS?
HIV is often linked with AIDS, but their definitions are different.

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that causes AIDS. It lives in human blood, breast milk and sexual fluids. When you are infected with HIV, your immune system will be gradually destroyed, so that it’s difficult for your body to defeat germs, fungi, virus and other invaders. HIV spreads primarily through unprotected sex, sharing needles and mother-to-baby infection during pregnancy.

AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) is a condition that comes when your immune system is no longer working if you get HIV and it’s not treated.
