What is an aortic aneurysm?

Your heart is the most important muscle in your body which can pump enough blood to each blood vessel. The aorta is the largest blood vessel in the body. Sometimes your aorta’s walls weaken, which is called an aortic aneurysm. That will cause many problems, such as heart attacks or even death.

Types and causes.

There are two locations of aortic aneurysms, in the chest and in the abdomen.
Causes of aortic aneurysm:

  • Genes
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol

Diagnosis and treatment.

You can sometimes find an aortic aneurysm during a routine exam. Doctors might suggest an ultrasound screening, especially if you are a man from 65 to 75 years old who has ever smoked. If the bulge it’s small, you must keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t get bigger. If the aneurysm is large, you might need surgery.
