What Causes Cervical Cancer Besides HPV?

I know HPV is the main cause of cervical cancer. There must be some other risk factors. What are other causes?

A:

Cervical cancer begins when cervical cells are experiencing mutation. Infection with HPV can lead to this, it’s the main cause. Besides HPV, other factors can also increase the chance of the cancer.

1.    Early sexual activity

Having sex at an early age (younger than 16) increases the risk of cervical cancer.

2.    Many sexual partners

Having sex with many people increase your chance of acquiring HPV, therefore, you are more likely to have cervical cancer.

3.    Other infections

The reason why a person has cervical cancer could be having other sexually transmitted infections, such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and HIV/AIDS. They all make your risk of the cancer higher.

4.    Other causes

Besides the above causes, many other factors can also lead to cervical cancer, such as early parturition, a weak immune system, smoking and malnutrition.
