What Are the Causes of Eye Floaters?

Q:
What are the causes of eye floaters?

A:
Eye floaters are some spots in your vision. They look like black or gray cobwebs, strings, or specks that drift about when you move your eyes. But when you try to look at them clearly they will disappear.

There are some causes for eye floaters:

  • Aging: It’s a common cause for eye floaters. As you age, the protein fibers in your eyes shrink down to little shreds. Those little shreds clump together to make shadows. And such shadows on your retina are floaters.
  • Other eye diseases including bleeding, inflammation, and itchy eyes.
  • Overuse of eye medicines.
  • Eye surgeries.
  • Use of fake and inferior cosmetics.
  • Wear contact lenses for a long time.
