What Causes Hemorrhoids Bleed?

Q:
What causes hemorrhoids bleed?

A:
When you notice blood only during the passing of a stool or at the end of a bowel movement, you may have bleeding hemorrhoids.

The bleeding that occurs with hemorrhoids often results from

  • squeezing
  • friction
  • passing a hard bowel movement due to constipation

Such excessive bleeding rarely need treatment for anemia. But if excessive bleeding occurs, or if you feel extreme pain, you should seek medical care as soon as possible.

However, rectal bleeding doesn’t always have connections with hemorrhoids. In fact, it can indicate other conditions such as fissures, ripped tissue or even infections.

So you may take a look at the color of blood. Is it bright red, brown or black?

Generally, bright red blood will indicate bleeding hemorrhoids, while darker ones and especially black blood may indicate another condition.

But in order to correctly diagnose your condition and to get proper treatment, you should visit your doctor.
