A chromogranin A (CgA) test is a blood test to help diagnose neuroendocrine tumors, especially carcinoid tumors. It has another name: CgA test.

As for the chromogranin A in the name of the test, it’s a protein released from neuroendocrine cells which can give rise to tumors. Therefore, the level of chromogranin A in the blood suggests the condition of neuroendocrine cells.

Normally, the chromogranin A level is relatively low.
