What is adenocarcinoma of the colon?

Colon cancer, also referred to as adenocarcinoma of the colon, is a malignant tumor that starts in the colon or large intestine. The large intestine is a long tube-like organ that is near the end of the digestive system. Food passes through the stomach and small intestine first and the colon is responsible for eliminating fluid and some nutrients from the food you eat. The colon then pushes the remaining solid waste into the rectum where it can be cleared out of the body.
