What Is Hemorrhoidectomy?

Q:
What is hemorrhoidectomy?

A:
Hemorrhoidectomy refers to the surgery to remove hemorrhoids.

In fact, it is the last resort that your doctor will consider. When your condition is so serious that a healthy diet and lifestyle and over-the-counter medicines do little help, we finally recommend it.

Because it is often an outpatient procedure, you can usually go home the same day. Recovery often needs about 2 weeks, but it can take as long as 3 to 6 weeks to feel like you’re back to normal.

It’s very common and is relatively safe. However, any surgery has some risks including:

  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Reaction to anesthesia

Also, you might have some trouble peeing afterward because of swelling or muscle spasms.

Talk to your doctor to figure out what’s right for you. And call him if you have any uncomfort after the sugery.
