What is Hypercholesterolemia?

Hypercholesterolemia is a condition characterized by very high levels of cholesterol in the blood. Cholesterol is like wax and it sticks to the wall of the arteries. When a person has a high level of cholesterol in his blood, over years, it becomes thicker and makes the arteries narrower for blood to go through. The wax comes into plaque. Once the plaque drops from the wall, it becomes blood clot and blocks the artery. This is how heart attack happens.

You’ve probably heard about high cholesterol, HDL-C, LDL-C, or triglycerides. These are all components in blood cholesterol test. HDL-C, or HDL cholesterol is the Good cholesterol, on the contrary the LDL-C, or LDL cholesterol is the Bad cholesterol.
