What is inflammatory bowel disease?

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) refers to two conditions that involves digestive tract inflammation. They are crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

The two conditions:

  • Crohn’s disease. It involves the inflammation of the lining of the digestive tract.
  • Ulcerative colitis. This involves sores and long-term inflammation of the innermost lining of the rectum and colon.

Symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Suppressed appetite
  • Diarrhea
  • Pain in abdomen

The real cause of the disease is unclear. Scientists believe immune system malfunction may be the cause.
