PET (positron emission tomography) scan is an imaging test for detecting certain diseases, such as cancer, heart problems, brain disorders, etc.

It uses a special dye which contains radioactive tracers. Patients can either swallow or inhale the tracers, the tracers can even also be injected into arm veins.

Tracers play the role of seeing how your organs and tissues are working. The PET scan can measure blood flow, oxygen use, sugar use and so on.
