Sexual asphyxiation, also known as erotic asphyxiation, breath control play, asphyxiophilia, hypoxyphilia, or auterotic asphyxia, is a kind of paraphilia. It refers to the intentional restriction of oxygen to the brain. The purpose of this practice is to arouse someone’s sexual response.

Sexual asphyxiation practices including hanging, self-strangulation such as with a ligature, gas or volatile solvents, suffocation with a plastic bag over the head, chest compression etc. These practices are very dangerous even if performed with care. And these practices have already cause a significant number of accidental deaths.
