What Is the Prognosis of Scleroderma?

In medical field, prognosis represents an estimate of the patient. It shows whether the patient will recover from the disease. The prognosis of scleroderma depends on the real situation of the patient.

The common length of survival for patients with scleroderma after diagnosis is 5-10 years.

According to the study, the 5-year survival rate for patients with scleroderma is about 85%, whereas the 10-year survival rate is less than 70%.

Besides, if the patient has some other diseases, his/her survival rate will be greatly reduced. Such diseases include pulmonary fibrosis, scleroderma renal crisis, pulmonary hypertension, liver cancer, lung tumor, bladder cancers, and cardiovascular diseases.

But, it should be noticed that with immediate and proper treatments, a small number of patients live more than 10 years after diagnosis.
