What Is the Treatment for Early Stage Bladder Cancer?

Q:

What is the treatment for early stage bladder cancer?

A:

The stage of your cancer helps your doctor to make your treatment plan. Besides the stage, treatment also depends on your type of cancer, where the cancer is and other health conditions.

Stage 0 bladder cancer can be divided into non-invasive papillary carcinoma (Ta) and flat non-invasive carcinoma (Tis). Stage 0 bladder cancer is usually treated with transurethral resection (TURBT). In rare case should it be treated with extensive surgery.

Transurethral resection is often the first treatment option for people with stage I bladder cancer. However, if the cancer belongs to high grade, there are two or more tumors, or the tumor is very large, the doctor will recommend you to try radical cystectomy.
