What Is HER1 Breast Cancer?

Q:

What is her1 breast cancer?

A:

HER1 is also known as EGFR or ErbB1, which belongs to ErbB family. It is found in various human cancers. What’s more, the excessive signaling it has can be critical to the development and malignancy of these tumors.

If the cells that overexpress HER1 are exposed to continuous presence of EGF, they can become transformed.

Approximately, in 30% of human breast tumors, the cells overexpress HER1, which can lead to a loss of estrogen responsiveness and a poorer prognosis. Based on a variety of evidence, it is suggested that HER1 occurs in later stages of breast cancer and is possible to accelerate the metastatic process.
