What is vulvar cancer?
Vulvar cancer is a type of cancer that forms on the outer surface area of the female genitals (the vulva). It includes the opening of the vagina, the outer lips, the inner lips, and the clitoris.
In general, the cancer appears as a lump or sore on the vulva, probably resulting in itching. Additionally, there may be pain, tenderness, bleeding, and skin changes present.
Although the exact cause of the cancer is unclear, the consensus is that the risk of the cancer increases with age. In addition, people with HIV (human papillomavirus) infection are at greater risk too.
If you worry about the presence of this cancer, you should speak to your doctor. The doctor may order a physical exam and ask for a biopsy to diagnose.
Last, as for the treatment, it involves surgery.
