What treatments are advised for early breast cancer?

The treatment for different stages of breast cancer differ. At the early stage of breast cancer, different treatment methods are combined together, including surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy and/or targeted therapy.

Among others, surgery is usually chosen as the first step to treat early breast cancer. Either the whole breast or only the tumor and its surrounding tissues are removed. Besides, some lymph nodes are removed to find out the spread of cancer cells.

Radiation therapy is often used to eliminate the cancer cells left after a lumpectomy, which can prevent the recurrence of the cancer to a certain extent.
