Although advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC) remains as a challenge for medical breakthrough and it is still hard to cure, systemic therapy for advanced RCC has developed rapidly since 2015, thanks to targeted therapies and clinical development.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved cabozantinib (Cabometyx) for the first-line treatment of patients with advanced (RCC). In 2016, the FDA approved cabozantinib to be used to treat patients with advanced RCC. These patients should undergo anti-angiogenic therapy previously.
