Fungal meningitis is not common. It is caused by fungus. Usually, people whose immune system is not working so well, such as those infected with HIV, are likely to get the disease.

Symptoms:

  • Stiff neck
  • Vomiting
  • Confusion
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Sensitivity to light

Causes:
You may catch the disease when a fungus gets inside your blood and spreads through the blood vessels to the brain or spinal cord. You may also get it after you take medicines that weaken your immune system. They include steroids and medications used after an organ transplant.
