Legionnaire disease is a very serious kind of pneumonia. It’s lung inflammation caused by a bacterium called legionella.

You get the disease not from daily contact with people, but from inhaling the bacteria or touching contaminated soil.

Symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Shortness of breath
  • Cough
  • Pain in muscles
  • Pain in chest
  • Chills
  • Vomiting

Pontiac fever is a mild form of this disease. It usually clears after a couple of days.

Prevention:

  • Don’t smoke
  • Disinfection of pools, spas and water systems
  • Keeping your surrounding very clean
