When to See a Doctor in Bladder Cancer?

Q:

I’m taking chemotherapy for bladder cancer. Usually I stay at home and take drugs. When should I call the doctor?

A:

As you have been diagnosed and is during your treatment for bladder cancer, you should follow your doctor’s direction about when to call him. Normally, you should call him whenever you have new problems, such as new signs and symptoms getting worse.

Side effects are common in chemotherapy, but if you really feel uncomfortable, you should call your doctor. He may change the medication to make you feel better.

If chemotherapy is not helpful in your case, the doctor may recommend you to take it with radiotherapy. The two types of treatment together can enhance the effect, but side effects often become more serious in the combination.
