Where Did HIV Virus Come From?

The source of the HIV virus comes from West Africa.

Scientists believed that it’s a type of chimpanzee in West Africa that brings simian immunodeficiency virus(SIV)  to humans and mutated into HIV later. The virus gradually spreads across to the whole world after decades. This subspecies of chimpanzees native to west equatorial Africa had been identified as the original source of the virus.

In 1959, the first known case,HIV-1  infection was detected from a man in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

In the mid- to late 1970s, the virus has existed in the United States. During that time, rare types of pneumonia, cancer, and other illnesses were being reported in Los Angeles and New York. The patients were a number of male patients who had sex with other men.

In 1982,  “acquired immunodeficiency syndrome,” or AIDS were used to describe this infection.
