Which Month Is Cervical Health Awareness Month?

Q:

Which month is cervical health awareness month?

A:

The US Congress designated January as Cervical Health Awareness Month. Since the designation, January has become a month with a special focus on people’s cervical health.

Approximately 13,000 women in this country are diagnosed with cervical cancer every year. But don’t panic, for the disease is preventable and curable. The purpose of Cervical Health Awareness Month is to enhance people’s awareness of preventing the cancer. It can be prevented by vaccination and appropriate screening tests including Pap and HPV DNA tests.

During January, many organizations across the country, such as NCCC and American Cancer Society, highlight issues about cervical cancer and the importance of early and regular detection.
