Why Should You Need Bowel Cancer Screening?

Why should you need bowel cancer screening?

Bowel cancer screening is the process of identifying if you have or are at risk of bowel cancer.

Why should I need bowel cancer screening?
Bowel cancer is a common cancer. Screening can help detect bowel cancer at an early stage, when it’s easier to treat. It can also be  helpful to checking for and removing small growths in the bowel, which can turn into cancer over time.

However, only people aged 55 or over, when they are more likely to get bowel cancer, need NHS bowel cancer screening.

What types of screening test should I choose?
At present, there are 2 types of test, as the following shows:

  • bowel scope screening: for people aged 55
  • home testing kit (the FOB test): for people aged 60 or over

Remember, no screening test is 100% reliable. There’s still a chance a cancer could be missed. And also keep contact with your doctor if your are worried about your family history.
